If
adjectives such as landmark, large, spacious, eclectic and
raw come to mind, then you are on track and more than likely
have had an association with Art Centers in SOHO. What began
as a bohemian enclave for a select group of artist’s
in the late 1960’s, evolved into Manhattan’s leading
art center that acquired a reputation for showcasing cutting-edge
and often provocative art.
Included
among these trend-setting Art Centers is Step Gallery,
where in the Spring of 1989 the first of a long series of
exhibitions was launched, and ‘Big Twin’ debuted
the “Twin Giants of Digital and Analog”, his splendid
collection of innovative works created with paint and Macintosh.
Big Twin dazzled the audience with his inventive spin on photography
and was truly a pioneer for his day.
Following
this inspiring initiation, Step Gallery ambitiously
pursued its mission to discover and reveal new art across
all media from emerging artists both locally in the New York
metro area as well as from abroad through collaborations at
its provocative and highly attended exhibitions.
Throughout
the years Step Gallery has remained focused
on promoting artistic awareness through its dedication to
the expression of art that is derived from the soul of the
artist. The aim is to present art that is in keeping with
the artist’s idiosyncratic spirit, while the viewer
is offered art that is in keeping with the lifestyle modes
of the 21st century.
The
intention behind this commitment is an effort to draw a collaborative
balance between promoting artists and their work, and cultivating
the aesthetic appreciation of the viewer, using art as the
vehicle to initiate this dialogue.
As
Art patrons, we share a mutual yearning to awaken our creative
potential and collectively participate as proud collectors.
After all, there is a sublime difference between merely admiring
a work of Art and owning that Art. The intangible quality
inherent in Art is the power that lies at the essence of what
adds value to one’s life. It remains an immeasurably
gratifying force that globally connects us to the creative
realm.
Step Gallery operates as dealer,
broker and consultant to private and corporate collections.
Services include research and sourcing and shipping and installation.
Drawing
from a variety of talents and artistic stimulation, Paul’s
vision is to inspire artistic awareness within an atmosphere
dedicated to cultural discipline and fulfillment of pleasure.
He
believes that building artistic awareness goes beyond simply
informing –it is about reaffirming confidence and establishing
character. Viewers are encouraged to look beyond the surface
peripheral, while exploring their imaginations through mutual
inquiry.
Paul
maintains that a ‘gallery’ is much more than a
place to examine art ---- it is an artistic forum, where people
can interact and enjoy art of the highest quality, and where
the viewer’s soul is immersed in the creative spirit
of the artist.
It
goes without saying, that today’s world is vastly different
from that of previous generations and will continue to change,
albeit at a faster pace, over time. Thus society, collectively,
and the artist, individually, are in a perpetual state of
‘transition’. Paul’s
ambition is to discover those unique Artists whose work characterizes
the essential ingredients of ‘Art in transition’,
and introduce them to his patrons.
To
his credit, Paul has aided various individuals in becoming
aspiring first-time collectors and has also contributed to
the development and expansion of the seasoned collector’s
appetite for distinctive work… ‘Art
in transition’.
